Hi, I’m new here.

Well, would you look at this. I am finally taking some time to blog, instead of continuing to talk about it for another year. Hello, it is me. Most of you who read this will probably be friends/family but for those of who you find yourself lost on wordpress and stumble upon my page here are some fun facts – I’m Harley, 27 (almost), a Virgo, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania native living in Long Beach California currently. I work in both the beauty and music industries, so I’m busy pretty much all of the time. The California dream of having three jobs, right? haha ugh. Anyways, I am also a published live music photographer but have taken a bit of a hiatus from that. I love a good cup of iced Vietnamese coffee, and if you have pizza recommendations send them my way. There are the basics for now. I will be posting a lot about my traveling (I just recently got my passport), and random day adventures on here. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m sitting on Lauren’s couch reminiscing on my trip to Batuu..

YO, where do I even? How do I even? Y’all I went to Batuu. For those of you who don’t know me too well, hello it me Harley. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan, thank my father for that. I drool over the dark side heartthrobs, I love you so much Anakin. But anyways, excuse me sorry back to the reason we are all here. My review of Batuu/Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland here in Anaheim California.

Let me begin my thanking my dear friend Alexis for hooking this up, what a gem. A last minute change in her plans brought a friend I have had since high school from Ohio all the way here to me in California for a week randomly. Hey, I will take it.

So, she comes here and says she wants to go to Disneyland, cool, I’m down. I have lived here again for about seven months now and hadn’t made my way back to Disneyland in over about 4 years! I was in.

I’m going to be real with you the first thing that popped in my mind when the tickets were bought was “I’M GOING TO PILOT THE MILLENNIUM FALCON!”, that dream didn’t come true. (I was however the gunner on the falcon, so I suppose second in command isn’t too bad).

This trip to Disneyland was different than any other trip I had taken here, not just for the fact that Galaxy’s Edge had only recently opened, but because the wait times for rides this day were INSANELY low. We waited no longer than about 30 minutes for ANY ride, even for Smugglers Run, it was a dream. We got through probably about 6-8 rides all before 4pm. The classics, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, whatever that hellacious bobsled ride was called that has my back STILL hurting. Astounding, and even headed over into California Adventure.

But back to Batuu – Galaxy’s Edge was beyond cool. The attention to detail not only on the Falcon but in the Black Spire Outpost, and throughout all areas of Edge were impeccable. Blue milk, droid/saber building shops, photo opportunities at every turn, everyone dressed in their favorite Star Wars gear. I was beaming. We even got to see my sweetheart Kylo Ren and a few stormtroopers out and about in the First Order area of the park, questioning some locals.

I will be honest and say that I wish there was a bigger part of this area focused on the First Order and the Dark Side. Perhaps we will get that when the new Rise of the Resistance ride opens in 2020. This part of GE felt a little empty and out of place.

But overall if I had to rate my experience I would give a solid 7/10. I greatly enjoyed myself, and felt very thankful to be surrounded by such a cool gathering of fans for one fandom. Go, see it for yourself, don’t believe the reviews you read, review it for yourself.

Remington Hot Springs

Where do I begin about my trip I took to Bodfish on Thursday? This place was magical, breathtaking, centering. I have never experienced anything like it. Thank you once again to Atlas Obscura for a great recommendation, when I woke up thinking, yknow what? I want to soak in a hot spring today.

I will say one of my favorite things about having friends here in California is we all have this spontaneity, or dire need to get the hell out of the city for a while, so we can call each other up and be like, “hey you want to go on a 4 hour drive to so and so” and someone is always down.

After we made our way out of LA city limits, we reached a lot of farming land – apple orchards and produce farms as far as the eye could see. My favorite part of the drive however was near the end, when we were driving up and around the mountain. It took about 45 minutes from the bottom as it took you out of the town limits of Bodfish. This drive was super sketchy, especially for my weak heart. Know this about me, I am horribly terrified of heights. My knees shake, I can’t breathe, I panic – So driving alongside a cliff with no guardrail was a small feat in itself for me that day. As you drive along the canyon, you look off to your side and you can see the Kern River flowing throughout the mountain. The river was calm in areas, but also raging and rapid in others, so the view on the drive was never less than mesmerizing. I turned down my music, and rolled down the windows (even though it was 95) to really take it all in.

At the top of the mountain you enter the state park – there you will park on another very sketchy looking cliffs edge. Don’t worry, it’s fine. I’m sure it’s fine. Except perhaps be weary of what I think might be a small killer bee colony LOL, they were aggressive. We parked, and began our descent down the path to the river. They have wooden barricades to help direct you which way to go. After about 1/4 mile of a trek you get to the first tub, the only secluded of the four, so secluded in fact that many visitors like to take off their intimates (and leave a pair of boxers behind).

After getting over my initial excitement of my first ever hot spring experience, and by that I mean ripping off my romper and hopping in, we walked only about one minute further to the rest of the tubs. These were located right next to the Kern River we had followed there half of the drive. Amazing, What a view to see as you walk out of the trees.

I wasted no time once again hopping into the largest of the tubs, the one located right beside the river, and nestled myself onto a step that would allow me to be half in the hot spring and half in the crisp river water. The best location. If you go with friends here, call dibs on that spot. These hot springs were about 100-105 degrees based on which tub you chose to soak in.

All in all smoking a joint called “zombie death fuck” that a sweet, older local to the area grew and shared with us while soaking in a hot spring, looking out at a beautiful view, and even watching fish jump around feet away from you in the riverbed was just what the doctor ordered for me that day. Growing up in Pennsylvania you just don’t get to experience things like this. I will be returning here sooner than later. I am huge on places and things that make you feel small, and minuscule in the grand scheme of things, and this did just that. I’m still gleaming.
